Chief Inspector statement on report of HM Inspectorate of Probation on the inspection of youth offending work in Newport

The inspection was led by HM Inspectorate of Probation, we worked with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and Estyn to produce the report.

Commenting on the report issued today by HM Inspectorate of Probation on the inspection of youth offending work in Newport, Chief Inspector of Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales, Imelda Richardson, said:

After being part of the joint inspection led by HMI Probation, along with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and Estyn, we were disappointed that the quality of work with children and young people who have offended had deteriorated.

Producing joint reports like this with other inspectorate bodies is critical in ensuring improvement. When things go wrong they need to be addressed and steps put in place to make changes for the better. A number of recommendations have been provided to the management board which have been accepted and we hope significant improvements will be made instantaneously.
