Statement in response to Reach inspection report

Our statement about our inspection of Reach.

There have been ongoing concerns about the quality of care provided in Powys by Reach. Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales undertook an inspection of Reach, including talking to people who were receiving services, and found serious shortcomings.

Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales’ priority is safeguarding people. We have been monitoring the situation in Powys and been in close contact with Powys County Council to make sure that people are safe during this period.

Making sure that providers meet the needs of vulnerable people is a priority when commissioning services. Powys County Council have commissioned an independent review into the awarding of the contracts. We will review the recommendations and decide whether we need to undertake additional work. We are also monitoring the transfer of care services from Reach to a new provider, and the service provided by other domiciliary care agencies in Powys.
