Chief Inspector visits First steps playgroup to celebrate national parents’ week

Chief Inspector, Imelda Richardson met staff and parents of First steps playgroup, Trelai, Cardiff to celebrate national parents’ week.

The playgroup is part of the Welsh Government’s Flying Start programme for families with children under four years of age living in deprived areas of Wales.

Chief Inspector, Imelda Richardson said:

The nursery is a valuable service for families in the area. The staff are devoted to ensuring that children of all abilities are included in activities and that their needs are taken into account.

Speaking to parents about their experience of day care services is an important part of our work to improve day care services further for young children in Wales. The Flying start programme is vital for children and parents. The service provided by playgroups such as First steps is key to encouraging early intervention and the development of young children.

Meeting the staff, parents and children at the nursery has been a great pleasure. I would like to thank them all for their time and valuable feedback.
