Care Council for Wales have recently updated their registration rules for adult care home managers.

Care Council for Wales (Registration) Rules have recently been amended. A qualified nurse who wants to work as an adult care home manager in Wales must also hold a management qualification and register. The management qualification required now also includes Level 5 ILM Diploma in Management (assessed in a health or social care setting) as detailed below.

How does this affect you?

This means that a First Level Registered Nurse must also hold either:

  • A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services (Adults’ Residential Management) Wales and Northern Ireland

Or can now also hold

  • A Level 5 ILM Diploma in Management (assessed in a health or social care setting).

First level Registered Nurses who hold the Level 5 ILM Diploma in Management above must be registered with the Care Council for Wales, with the training requirement to complete the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services (Adult’s Residential Management) Wales and Northern Ireland before renewal of their first 3 year registration with the Care Council for Wales.
