Tax-Free Childcare is a new online UK Government service to help working parents with the cost of their childcare.
For every £8 a parent pays into their childcare account, HMRC will pay in an extra £2, up to a maximum of £2,000 every year for each child. Parents will then be able to pay providers for childcare directly from their childcare accounts.
Tax-Free Childcare will start to roll out to parents shortly and once they have applied they will only be able to pay providers from their childcare account if the provider has signed up to Tax-Free Childcare.
The process is simple, and once you’ve done so you don’t need to do anything else.
Last autumn, HMRC sent out invitations to registered or approved childcare providers to sign up, and more than 20,000 childcare providers have already done so.
