97% of Welsh childcare and play providers complete their self-assessment
We are delighted to announce a remarkable response to this year's Self-Assessment of Service Statement (SASS), with 2,654 childcare and play providers across Wales submitting their assessments.
This represents a massive 97% of all registered providers in the country.
The SASS is a critical tool that enables providers to reflect on their service delivery and identify areas for improvement, while also providing valuable data that supports sector-wide planning and development.
This high completion rate leads to:
Enhanced inspection planning: With updated service information, we can better plan inspection schedules and quality meetings, ensuring regulatory oversight remains relevant and proportionate.
An enhanced service directory: Families searching for childcare and play services now have access to current, accurate information through the our service directory, supporting them to make informed choices.
Evidence-based policy development: The Welsh Government utilises this information to guide policy decisions on important areas such as professional qualifications, Welsh language provision, and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) support.
A Commitment to quality
The exceptional response rate demonstrates providers' ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards and continuous improvement in the childcare and play sector.
Ceri Herbert, head of the childcare and play team commented
"We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the providers who took the time to complete their Self-Assessment. This impressive completion rate reflects the dedication of our childcare and play workforce to delivering quality services for children and families across Wales."
The information gathered will help shape future support for the sector and ensure that regulatory activities remain focused on areas that matter most to children's wellbeing and development.
