Care experienced children and young people help shape guidance on opening quality children’s homes in Wales
We asked a group of young people to help us to develop guidance about what makes a home a great place to live.
The guidance is designed to ensure organisations planning on opening a children’s home in Wales have a good understanding of what is important to young people.
We asked the Young Commissioners, a group of around 60 children and young people aged from six to 19 who live with a foster family or in a children’s home in Wales, to think about:
- What makes a house feel like home.
- What is the right size for a good home and how many children who should live together.
- What the inside of a good home should look like, including their thoughts on their individual rooms and shared spaces.
- What the exterior of a good home should look like, including the gardens and outside space.
- Where a good home should be located and what should be in the surrounding community.
You can read the fantastic suggestions from the Young Commissioners via the link at the bottom of this page.
