Statement about the recent disorder, violence and racism witnessed across the UK

We stand alongside our colleagues working in social care or childcare and play who are Black, Asian or from a minority ethnic background.

As an organisation we are appalled at the disorder, violence and racism seen in England and Northern Ireland in recent weeks. Thankfully, the situation has quietened now and Wales has so far been spared such disturbing scenes. Nevertheless, these events may still raise fears and anxieties for many people wherever they live or work.

We want to stand alongside those colleagues working in social care or childcare and play who are Black, Asian, or from a minority ethnic background, or have family members or friends affected by the racism they have witnessed.

Care Inspectorate Wales is committed to becoming more equal, more diverse and more inclusive in the way we work, and in the way in which social care and childcare is provided. We want to do all we can to support the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan (External link), both in the way we work and the way we support and challenge the services we regulate and inspect.

Please reach out to your colleagues, or managers if you need support, or know of someone who is affected by these events.

There is material and links to support health and wellbeing on the Social Care Wales website (External link) and at Canopi (External link), the free and confidential mental health support service for social care and NHS staff in Wales aged 18 years and over.
