Completing your Self Assessment of Service Statement (SASS): Adult care homes, children’s homes and domiciliary care agencies

How to complete your SASS if you run an adult care home, children’s home or a domiciliary care agency.

If you run an adult care home, a children’s home or a domiciliary care agency you were required to complete and submit a focused SASS using CIW Online (External link). The deadline to complete and submit your SASS was 15 November 2017

Only the Responsible Individual or Registered Person could complete the SASS.

You were required to complete your SASS regardless of whether your service is operating.

Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016

The completion of the SASS was the first step as part of the transition process of the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 which will come into effect from April 2018.

If you intend to continue to provide a care service after April 2018, you will need to re-apply for registration under the Act. More information about re-registration is available on our ‘Re-registration’ page.

I have a CIW Online account and submitted my SASS, what do I need to do now?

If you have a CIW Online account and submitted your SASS you can still access CIW Online (External link) and view your submitted SASS form. You do not need to do anything else.

You will not be able to make any changes. If you need to notify us of any changes to your service or make a variation you must submit these using our notification or making changes to your registration forms.

Why do we need this information?

We need this information to:

  • confirm that your registration details are current and correct; and
  • find out how you intend to register under the new law in April 2018.

How we use this information

We will use this information to prepare for implementation of the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act by confirming registration details are current and correct. This will enable us to identify any inaccuracies now and address these before the transition process for the Act.

We will not hold you to the information about how you intend to register your service under the Act, as we understand that this may be liable to change. However, it will provide us with a better understanding of the types of applications we may receive in February 2018 and assist us with our planning.
